Hilma af Klint was courageous in a variety of ways, where she went far beyond the visual aspect of her creativity. Much of her work was built around this spiral motif, which was seen often through her paintings, which I feel drew heavy inspiration towards building the Guggenheim Musuem.
Her work was deemed ahead of her time, because she did not want you to know the answers and underlying messages now, but further out into the future you could possibly decipher it. After studying at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm, she painted natural botanicals, landscapes, geometrical figures, and even spirituality. She sparked an interest in conducting seances with other women, where they would communicate with spirits. The women would use those means of communicating and transform it into the art she created.
When she died, Klint didn't want her work to be viewed until after 20 years later. This also allowed the mystery of her work to increase, maybe because the vast majority wouldn't be able to interpret or understand the work she created.
I feel spirituality does play a role in my work. Being that i would be using specific sounds and frequencies, id be able to bring you to a different state of mind, all from the power of music. Recently I found out that I have synthesia, meaning a see specific colors when I hear certain sounds. I thought this was normal, until I figured out not everyone has this ability.
