Paintings for the Future/Spirituality and Identity

I believe that Hilma af Klint had some merit to her beliefs and what inspired her, her inspiration from the spiritual is something that should further be explored. I believe that spirituality is something that everyone should explore because everyone to some extent has a different belief on what their spirituality is and how it affects or plays a part in their life. I can look into this with my own identity because it showcases how one thinks about themselves and how it can translate towards your perception of self and identity, I believe it can help with the understanding of the artwork one produces and their success. I don’t personally use any sort of spiritual aspects in my identity or showcase it in my art but I feel like a lot of things that I attribute to my characteristics are defined by what could be considered spirituality whether I know it or not.

I believe that our connection to the universe influences people identity because when you’re thinking grand like the universe, it could help one reflect on what their part is in this world. Do we all owe something to the spirits or gods that have brought us here, do we owe the universe any sort of respect or attention as a result of our birth here on earth? These ideas also influence my own identity because I believe that one should be in tune with nature and the universe, also to constantly put out positive energy into the universe to receive positive energy back. Aspects of spirituality might play a part in some of my work but it’s not really based on the label of “spirituality”, I don’t really know much about spirituality but I feel like I share some similarities in how I think with those who practice spirituality.
One of the beliefs in Theosophy as described in the article “Who Is Helena Petrovna Blavatsky?”, states that they want to explore the unexplained laws of nature. I love this idea because I feel like there’s so much that we don’t know about nature and its powers, I feel like nature impacts us in a visceral way that we can’t explain. Nature does that to me at least, I believe nature is so profound and natural that it is one of the strongest things on earth, I would like to investigate its laws and powers. One of the beliefs of Theosophy is to also investigate the latent powers in humans, this really struck me as well. I believe that humans have a lot of control of their own lives but are conditioned to believe that we don’t.
I believe that the energy we put out into the universe we will receive back if we want something like a huge mansion, we have to put a lot of thought into envisioning us in that place and constantly wishing for it and putting an immense amount of energy into that goal to manifest it. Something, like wishing for the stuff you want and getting it is seen as something unrealistic, that’s why people tend to refuse that we have that much power over our own lives. We all need to awaken the power we all really have, the mind is a powerful thing that I feel we should further explore, so I do share a lot of interests that the Theosophy Society do. I don’t personally use any influences of spirituality in my work, in my artwork I do more of portraiture work which isn’t really considered Theosophy I believe.

In “Secret Séances and High Masters: The Making of Mystic Painter Hilma af Klint” by Anya Ventura they say that af Klint was trying to decode this new language of the divine, I find that to be very beautiful. Her paintings are very natural and feel very feminine to me, the colors so soft and such fragile lines, the colors full of brightness and mysticism.
